We created a map of individuals in the pomological community who corresponded with Lee Calhoun and are included in the binder of his letters in the Southern Historical Collection.
In addition to drawing on his letters for information about these people, we did research using newspaper articles, obituaries, blog posts, and other outside resources.
The purpose of this map is to provide a dynamic tool for finding out more about apple enthusiasts from all walks of life who have contributed to a worldwide pomological network. Our hope is that it will serve as a visual testament to the high level of collaboration that has characterized the life work of Lee Calhoun and all those who are deeply passionate about apples. We firmly believe that much like networks of pomological knowledge, this resource will remain ever-emergent, growing and changing as it needs to and serving as a jumping-off point for future researchers.
